Free German Article Trainer
Every German noun has a gender. There's no rule for it. This app helps you memorize the right article using characters and visual memory.
There's no logic to why a noun - or even an adjective at times - has the gender it has. It's completely random!
The good news: all article types (ein, mein, kein, dieser, jener, welcher...) follow the same gender patterns.
Master the gender and the articles will fall into place. When to use which article is covered in my German courses.
Associate each gender with a character. Picture them interacting with each noun in wild, memorable ways!
Picture a pirate interacting with masculine nouns! The pirate is packing his suitcases for a journey.
Picture a fairy interacting with feminine nouns! The fairy is pouring milk into her cup.
Picture a baby interacting with neuter nouns - feel free to exaggerate! The baby is jumping up and down on its bed.
Each style has 3 unique characters - one for each article.
Speed up your practice:
You'll see 10 illustrated words - each showing a character interacting with the noun. Take a moment to memorize each scene: close your eyes, picture the action, add movement, sound, feeling.
Then select the right gender button. After 10 words, a quiz tests what you've learned - just the word, no image. First try = full XP, second chance = half.
Spaced repetition brings back words you struggled with at the right time.
Learn the theory behind German articles - why der, die, das, and how to remember them.
